PRE-ORDERS ARE NOW OPEN
They're finally coming... and this one has a story behind it.
When we filmed with Alex some time ago, many of you fell in love with the man, his garden and the way he grows his food. Alex has been growing his own capsicums from seed, and he was kind enough to give me some of those seeds to grow on and share with you.
He calls them his Florinis Capsicums.
We've now propagated a limited number of plants from Alex's seeds and they will be ready for collection from our Community Click & Collect outlets in approximately two weeks.
Numbers are strictly limited, so pre-ordering is recommended.
Please note: Alex's Florinis Capsicum seedlings are available exclusively through our Community Click & Collect outlets and will not be shipped.
As seen on Vasili's Garden TV Show
Some plants are worth growing simply because of the story behind them, and this is certainly one of them.
Introducing Alex's Florinis Capsicum, grown from seed given to me personally by Alex after we visited and filmed his garden.
This traditional style of sweet capsicum is associated with Florina in Western Macedonia, Greece, and produces beautiful elongated, horn-shaped fruit that begins green before ripening to a magnificent deep red.
The mature capsicums are fleshy, aromatic and beautifully sweet, with that traditional flavour that makes them just as good picked fresh from the garden as they are roasted, grilled, stuffed, preserved or cooked into sauces.
They may remind you of the giant bullhorn-style capsicums we see here in Australia, but this one comes with something you can't buy from a seed catalogue - Alex's story and the seeds he has saved and shared with us.
And we're going to share the story right back with him.
Profits from the sale of these plants will be going back to Alex.
So by growing one in your own backyard, you're not only keeping Alex's capsicum growing for another generation, you're supporting the bloke who shared it with us in the first place.
Grow it, enjoy it and, most importantly, keep some seeds from your biggest and best fruit for next season.
