Black Grit is a fused calcium magnesium silicate phosphate soil amendment/fertilizer that has been used successfully around the world for the last century in low fertility acid soils where it increases pH and CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) and provides and helps unlock P in the soil.

Black Grit provides soil amendment and fertilizer together in ONE application to acid soils. It assists in increasing pH to a sustainable level whilst providing useful amounts of macro-elements Ca, Mg, Si and P as well as a range of micronutrients. It is not water-soluble therefore does not leach or wash away.

Black Grit is made from naturally occurring minerals not chemically treated. It works with the natural soil chemistry to digest soil acid as well as providing minerals in a plant-available form. It is high in plant available calcium (24%), magnesium (10%) silicon (11%), and phosphorus (8%) and also acts as an alternative to lime.

Black Grit can be used as a starter in a crop or broadcast over pasture at any time of the year.
It has taken decades in some cases for soils to deteriorate, change also takes some time, but the sooner Black Grit is applied the sooner it can get to work in the soil. Typically, within 24 hours of application with some moisture Black Grit will start to digest soil acid and provide macronutrients to the plant.

Simply sprinkle 40g p/m2 around the garden and water in.
1kg of Black Grit will treat up to 20m2 garden.

Black Wonderment

Don’t quite know yet what Black Grit is doing to our miserable (Yates Tree invaded) soil but I get the feeling that it is marvellous stuff. The feel of it is great as I sprinkle it around the place… It will take some time to work out what comes of it but I have every faith that come spring we should see some improvement in both plant growth and soil tilth. The drought here has killed quite a few Yates trees (local inhabitants) so given that, perhaps they will stop reaching out for water and thus hogging the best of the soil.

I'm on my second 18kg bucket of Black Grit as I was so happy and impressed with the results in my garden from my first bucket. There was visible improvement in plant health over time and I love how you can pretty much just toss it around (before rain) and it gets to work and does its thing.

This is an essential element to use in the garden to promote healthy soil where microorganisms and plants can thrive, in turn ensuring good human health! We have a decent sized coastal block where we grow everything from clumping bamboo, flowers, fruit, natives and vegetables and I was so happy I could use Black Grit throughout the entire garden. It enhanced and prolonged fruiting and flowering. Importantly it really does create cohesion and integrity to your soil and especially raised beds I’ve found where more effort is required. We have been composting for years and adding essential organic matter etc along with keeping a decent sized worm farm where we use the worm tea and castings and using Black Grit we discovered complemented it all and raised the garden soil to the next level! Do Your Garden a Favour

Black Grit is now a staple in my garden. It has noticeably improved the size, sweetness and flavour of my fruit and vegetables. It has given a long term depth to my garden beds that other fertilizers haven't. I don't think I'm imagining it, but the intensity of colour of my flowering plants is richer too. Seriously- Black Grit has been like a deep drink on a hot day for our garden. Try it out for yourselves.
