Chinese Broccoli Vegetable Seeds
Botanical name: Brassica oleracea Alboglabra
Chinese Broccoli is a staple leafy brassica prized for its sweet, slightly mustardy flavour and juicy stems. Unlike heading broccoli, Kailaan is harvested as whole young shoots stems, leaves and unopened buds over an extended picking window. Grow in fertile, well-drained soil and harvest regularly for the best texture and taste.

Sow When:
- Cool: September – November
- Temperate: Spring to Autumn
- Subtropical: Spring to Autumn
- Tropical: May – July (dry/cooler months)
Germination: 5 – 10 days
Depth: 0.5 – 1 cm deep
Position: Full sun; sheltered from wind
Sow Where: Directly into garden bed
Soil Type: Fertile, well-drained, pH 6 – 7; add lime if necessary several weeks before sowing; prepare soil with compost
Rows: 35 – 45 cm apart
Spacing: 20 – 30 cm between plants
Details:
- Lightly mulch seed rows to prevent crusting
- Water well once after sowing & then do not water again until seedlings appear
Harvest: 55 – 70 days
