Wildlife Friendly Bird Netting has a mesh size of less than 5mm. Bird netting with a mesh size larger than 10mm is a risk for animals to be easily caught in, and responsible for the deaths of many bats, birds, possums, snakes, and other wildlife.
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals laws propose all household fruit netting: "must-have mesh size of 5mm x 5mm or less at full stretch and have a strand diameter of no less than 500 microns". The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) said if netting was not used in the correct manner, it could pose a serious risk to animals such as flying foxes, birds, possums, and even snakes. It said animals could die from strangulation, blood loss, shock, or dehydration.
Victoria's backyard blitz could mean any person found using illegal netting could be fined $330, and a person selling, or advertising illegal netting fined $660. New regulations for netting commence 1st September 2021.
The rule of thumb (finger) is to choose a netting that you cannot poke your finger through.

The black netting you sell is working a charm on my fruit trees. Eventually I'll cover all my trees. It looks good and keeps the birds away.
As actual netting it's probably as good as some others but the absolute best thing is that you can actually SEE your plants. The black does not reflect the entire visible light spectrum as does white netting. It's a total transformation to the visual state of your garden You can SEE them!!! And it's bird friendly and approved by the relevant authorities.....what could go wrong. It's fabulous and transformational.
First time buying this type of netting and I found it to be of great quality, its big enough to do a large apricot tree. I like the black as its not as stark as the white on a fruit tree. It was packed well. Looking forward to puttingit to good use and hopefully save some fruit.
The net is a perfect example of what i needed to protect my fig tree from the constant bird attacking the fruit so far so good ,thank you for providing good quality and advice.
